When we think of grass and grass seeds we often think of lawns and cut grass. In this kind of grass there are different varieties that produce different types of lawn. Grass seeds may all look much the same before they germinate but they can produce very different plants. One of the interesting things about grass and grass seeds are the many varieties to be found. Grass doesn’t have to be just short lawn types. You may have a pond and want to long grasses around the edges. You may want to tuck clumps of shaggy grass types into a rock garden. The many varieties and uses of grass seeds and grasses is a landscaping specialty in itself. A small tuft of grass in the right place can fill out a design and give it a finished look. It is a very subtle touch of greenery that can tie your whole garden together. Most varieties are very hardy and have the capacity to become weeds if not kept in close check.
If you are shopping for grass seeds for your lawn you may want to do a bit of research before you plant. It is easy to buy the cheapest seed and toss it in, but it may not get you the result you want. Some grasses will give you a lawn that is smooth as velvet when mowed closely. They grow very think and can be very suitable for golf and other sports. Others are less carpet like and give a more natural or pasture look.
